KUALA LUMPUR: More Malaysian Indian lorry drivers are set to enjoy better career prospect with an integrated Certificate of Professional Competence training programme on dangerous goods organised under the Malaysian Indian Skills Initiative (MISI).
The three-day intensive training aims to equip participants with the critical skills needed to safely handle hazardous materials.
“The integrated dangerous goods training we witnessed today marks another significant achievement in equipping truck drivers with the certification and expertise required to advance their careers,” said Batu MP P. Prabakaran who launched the ceremony in Klang on Saturday (Feb 8).
The initiative forms part of a broader effort by the Human Resources Ministry through the HRD Corp to address skills gaps in sectors crucial to the country’s future.
MISI, which has received 3,000 applications in high-demand areas such as artificial intelligence and smart farming, is focusing on elevating the logistics sector by enhancing technical proficiency and ensuring compliance with international safety and ESG standards, according to the ministry.
“Drivers who complete the certification are expected to secure higher wages, better job security and an overall competitive edge in the market,” said the ministry in a statement.
Participants have welcomed the initiative. V. Kalaiselvan, 29, who had been unemployed for over six months, expressed renewed hope after enrolling in the programme.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to earn this Integrated DG Training Certificate. Thank you, Madani Government,” he said.
Similarly, D. Devandran, 38, from Ipoh, highlighted that the training could help him move beyond his current gig economy role.
“After three years working in an environment with limited career progression, this training not only certifies me as a truck driver but also opens doors to management roles,” he noted.
